Summary
From the first days of this terrible war the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine is under heavy fire. People of all ages and backgrounds were forced to hide from bombings under ground. Many did not to wish to just wait, instead they got together to help those in need. This is how our non profit “Pekelna Kuhnya” (Hell’s Kitchen) was born. We started as strangers who were forced by the war into a hotel’s basement to a tight team of over 50, who are always ready to help people in our city and region.
Challenge
With every missile our spirit became stronger, and we will not stop no matter the challenge. Although Kharkiv has been under heavy shelling for over two months and has been severely damaged, over 700,000 people continue to live in the city. Kharkiv region is still home to several millions of residents. A lot of these people are in need of support, and we are here to help them.
Solution
Our work covers several aspects of aid:
- Prepared meals. We are running several kitchens, which work around the clock to cook hot nutritious meals for those, who are not able to cook themselves. These people include the elderly, people who are forced to live in bomb shelters, hospitals.
- Delivery of humanitarian aid. Most residents of Kharkiv are without work and are currently not able to purchase products. Every day we distribute humanitarian aid and supplies to all key areas of the city.
- Medication delivery. We have qualified medical specialists in our ranks, who consult people over the phone and prescribe necessary medications, which are delivered next day with food and supplies, if necessary
- Reconstruction of property after shelling. We have two fully equipped construction crews, which restore the homes after bombings so that the residents can safely return to their homes
- Evacuations. Each day we transport families escaping the war to safer areas and assist them with moving further in Ukraine and abroad.
Long-Term Impact
In the nearest future we plan to develop several new directions of assistance:
- Providing clothes to the residents. As of today, there no reliable stores open in Kharkiv, and whats more people do not have the resources to buy clothes. We have partnered with several local clothes production companies to help with this need. This way we will not only provide clothes to the ones most in need, but create employment for the residents.
- Windows replacement. Tens of thousands oh homes in Kharkiv currently have no windows as a result of heavy shelling, and this must be addressed before fall
- Employment agency. Most residents are currently unemployed, and we would like to organize a company, which will be able to assist people with education and further employment
